Why this exists
A lab sells a seat on a new cluster. We hire leftover seconds on a machine that is already on — a Neighbor desk or a Hall rack that would sit idle. You pay ¢ for the job. Neighbor 80%, Hall 88%. The prompt leaves you and runs on that host. They can read it. Pin a Hall with a rig code if the box has to be yours.
Pay jobs, not a $20 seat
Open weights for grunt work — summarize, extract, RAG — billed by the second on that machine. Cheaper when a mid-size local model is enough. Not private: the host that runs it can read the prompt. Pin a Hall rack with a rig code if the box has to be yours.
Get paid when a job actually runs
If Ollama (or LM Studio) can load a model on it, list it: Apple Metal, NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, or CPU-only. You set an hourly ask; renters pay by the job — often about a cent. Neighbor 80%, Hall 88%. An hourly rate × idle hours is a ceiling if the box is fully busy. It is not a monthly paycheck. No jobs, no pay.
No new rack for this token
A new cluster is extra watts. Neighbor uses a home box that is already on. Hall is an idle rack that would sit dark. Neither is a monthly lab seat. Leave the machine asleep when you are not hosting.

Host a machine
Anything Ollama can run: Apple, NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, or CPU-only. Neighbor leftover machines, 80% to you. Racks and colo are on Hall (admin approval + Linux).
- Download. Unzip — you should see one app, Ask Idle Host.
- Drag it to Applications, then double-click. Click Open if macOS asks.
- Needs a local model (Ollama or LM Studio) on whatever CPU or GPU that runtime supports. Then an A icon in the menu bar. Idle-only = jobs when you step away. Off = listed nowhere.
Renters never get a shell or your files. A job is text to the model already running on this machine (localhost only). No inbound ports. Attachments are converted to text in their browser before they reach you. Pause from the menu bar; delete the listing anytime. The installer is locked to this computer.
Mac and Windows downloads show after you sign in. That zip is tied to this account — no link code later.

Earnings
Host earnings only. Job credits (including signup credit) cannot be withdrawn. Cash out at $10.00 minimum so Stripe’s payout fee does not eat the transfer. Stripe files 1099-NEC in January if you earn enough.

Idle-only takes new jobs only after you step away (~90s no keyboard/mouse) and leftover CPU is under ~28% (GPU under ~20% if we can see it). Background daemons do not count. A job already running finishes. Full shares while you work, up to this machine’s cap. Off lists nothing. Busy machines stay on the board — Auto skips them.

Rack / colo compute. 88% to you. Windows app or Linux systemd. Not the Mac leftover app. Staff approve each operator. Venue is locked to the installer we issue — editing files on the box cannot turn a Neighbor machine into a Hall.
Windows: unzip and run Ask Idle Host. Linux: unzip, then sudo bash install.sh. Needs a local model runtime. US IP only.
