ChatGPT sells a seat in a new cluster. We sell leftover seconds on a machine that is already on. You pay ¢ for the job. Neighbor hosts keep 80%, Hall 88%. The prompt never hits OpenAI.
Pay jobs, not a $20 seat
Open weights for grunt work — summarize, extract, RAG — at GPU-seconds. Frontier chat stays ChatGPT. This is the cheaper pipe when 8B–70B is enough, and the private pipe when the prompt cannot leave the building.
Overnight rent on hardware you own
A 4090 at 40¢/hr × 8 idle hours is ~$96/mo if it is actually busy. An M-series Mac at 12¢/hr is ~$29/mo. You keep 85%. The product only works if jobs show up — that is the marketplace, not a charity.
No new rack for this token
A datacenter is often more efficient per token. The green win is different: this watt was already going to a laptop or tower. We do not ask you to build another hall. Leave the machine asleep when you are not hosting.

- Download. Unzip — you should see one app, Ask Idle Host.
- Drag it to Applications, then double-click. Click Open if macOS asks.
- Needs a local model (Ollama or LM Studio). Then a C icon in the menu bar. Idle-only / Off from there.
